If you have Photoshop or any other program that uses layers you can simply place a texture on top of your photo then change the blending mode of the texture (and the opacity if you like) to any of the blending modes. The ones I use most often are Overlay, Soft Light and Multiply. You can add as many layers as you like. If you’d like to remove the texture from certain areas of your photo, add a layer mask to the texture layer and then brush over the area to be removed with a soft black brush.

You can also have the textures printed out and mounted onto something like foam board to make your own backing boards for photography.
